John Disley and the late Chris Brasher are the cofounders of the London Marathon, first ever London Marathon was in 1981. The London Marathon has been an annual event held in London, United Kingdom since then.
The 31st running of the annual marathon, took place on a Sunday, 17th of April 2011. It was an extremely sunny day but thousands of runners from all over London and everywhere around the world participated in the annual Marathon.
Run for Charity – London Marathon
Most participants joined the Marathon for a cause, they represent their charities and hoping to raise money for them. Like Sophie Raworth, a BBC news presenter, who ran to raise cash for Cancer Research in memory of a friend who died from the sickness. It was unfortunately though that she passed out at mile 24, but as soon as she recovered after an hour, she got back up to her feet and finished the race.
The Winners
There were 4 division race, Elite Men's Race, Elite Women's Race, Elite Wheelchair Racing Marathon for Mena and another for Women.
Emmanuel Kipchirchir Mutai from Kenya had won the Elite Men's race, who finished at record time of 2:04:40. With Mutai's win, this made him the fourth-fastest ever over the distance.
It was from Kenya as well, who had won the Elite Women's Race – Mary Jepkosgei Keitany with time 2:19:19
